NIVA's Annual Picnic, Pool Party and Bonfire
At the Nichols' house

NIVA and Stateline Volksfolks join together to enjoy a great summer day with our gracious hosts, Doug and Jeanette Nichols at their beautiful country estate in Roscoe, IL. There will be swimming, an ice cream bar, the ever popular Doug Nichols games, dinner, prizes and a bonfire at dusk. You won't want to miss this event! Please bring lawn chairs, swimsuit and towel. Don't forget your sunscreen.
The fun begins at 1:00 pm. If you have a VW, please be sure to pull it around to the backyard for an informal viewing by all in attendance. Here is a schedule of when things take place so that you don't miss anything:

3:00 Games
5:00 Grilled Burgers, Dogs and Brats

Dusk Bonfire
Club will provide grilled food, ice cream sundaes, iced tea and lemonade. If you would like pop to drink, please bring it with you.
As in the past, we ask club members to bring a salad, side dish or dessert along with a snack/munchie like chips/dip, pretzels, etc. This year:
NIVA members bring a salad (veggie or fruit) OR side dish and a snack/munchie.
Stateline members bring a dessert and a snack/munchie.

19th Annual Vintage Transport Extravaganza at the Illinois Railway Museum in Union, IL
"The past comes alive through the display of antique autos, trucks, fire engines, tractors, motorcycles and buses-hundreds of vehicles assemble throughout the Museum campus. Ride the streetcars to the various display areas. Interurbans and diesel coach trains will be running on the mainline! "Music at the Museum"--the West End Jazz Band will entertain. Watch your mailbox for a mailing from Gary H. containing the special registration form if you would like to display your VW.
Saturday, August 8th
54th Annual VWCA Convention, held in conjunction with Volksfest 19 presented by the Central Ohio Vintage Volkswagen Club. Billed as the largest single day vintage VW event in Ohio, this show routinely attracts 700 or more Volkswagens. Location is Watkins Memorial High School, 8808 Watkins Road S.W., Pataskala, Ohio, east of Columbus. Registration of show cars and swap spaces can be made directly with the Central Ohio Vintage VW Club on-line at www.covvc.org.
Convention hotel is Ramada Inn East-Airport, 4801 East Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43212, (614) 861-0321. Mention “Volkswagen Club of America” when making room reservations before July 20, 2009 to obtain the special Club rate of $99 per double room.
VWCA Membership Meeting and annual awards presentations will be in the Whitehall Room at the Ramada Inn East-Airport on Saturday, August 8 following the car show (approx. 6:30 pm). While no Convention registration is required, attendees may stop by the Whitehall Room or the VWCA Information Booth at the car show to check in.

"A Tribute to Woodstock" Music Festival
Galt Airport (near Woodstock, IL)
Music fans from McHenry County, the Chicago area and from throughout the Midwest will converge on Galt Airport to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the world-famous and now historic music & peace festival that drew over 500,000 to Max Yasgur's farm, near Woodstock, New York in 1969.
NIVA has been invited to participate - the organizers would like to have a large display of vintage VW's in a special parking area on the festival grounds. NIVA member Dave Howard has more info, discount tickets for one or both days and complimentary parking passes for the special section (they ask that we arrive an hour before the event starts). We'd like to get as many folks as possible to attend (it really does sound like a fun event) as NIVA is an event sponsor.

More details to follow, but we're planning on meeting at Augustino's Rock-N-Roll Deli in West Chicago for dinner and then we'll cruise as a group to the Cascade Outdoor Drive-In Theater for a movie under the stars!

2009 NIVA Event Calendar
NIVA's membership meetings are held on the 4th (not the last) Wednesday of every month (except November and December) at Russell's BBQ, 2885 Algonquin Road in Rolling Meadows. Meetings usually run from 7:00 to 8:30pm. Come at 6:00pm for dinner if you'd like. All members, potential members and interested persons are invited to attend.
